Jaime Murphy, Life Coach

Sliding Scale Pricing Model

The Model

I am happy to announce that Murphy Life Coaching is moving to a sliding scale pricing model. Coaching will now be $40-$150 per individual session depending on length of session + where the client feels they fall on the scale. No questions are asked. Also, I’m aware that $40 per session is still too high for some people; if this is the case for you, please contact me to start a discussion. Jump to scale

A Commitment to Accessibility + Community Advocacy

Why am I doing this? I know that coaching can be life-transforming work + I feel strongly that it should be accessible to anyone who wants it. As a community advocate, I want to do what I can to bring more opportunity to all people. And, personally speaking, the more our communities heal, the better the world we live in with our families!

My Experience with Sliding Scale Pricing Models

This model has been repurposed from a friend and colleague after she implemented this to her community. Falling in love with it, I have decided to adopt the same philosophy. In the past + present I've participated in this structure. Sometimes I pay at the top of the scale, often I pay somewhere in the middle, + occasionally I’ve paid down at the bottom. When I pay more, I know that I am helping others to access resources + support. When I pay in the middle, I know I am helping the organizers cover costs and when I pay at the bottom, I know I am letting my community hold me + support me. All of these are wonderful + acceptable ways of participating. I’m revealing my experience with the sliding scale because I want my potential clients to know that I’ve participated at different points + they should feel totally comfortable choosing what feels right for them.

Consider paying less on the scale if you...

• are supporting children or have other dependents

• have medical expenses not covered by insurance

• receive public assistance

• have immigration-related expenses

• are a person who has scarce work history due to incarceration, trauma or health issues

Consider paying more on the scale if you...

• own the home you live in or have a low rent or mortgage

• have investments, retirement accounts, or inherited money

• travel recreationally

• have access to family money + resources in times of need

• work part time by choice

• have a relatively high degree of earning power due to level of education (or gender + racial privilege, class background, etc.) Even if you are not currently exercising your earning power, I ask you to recognize this as a choice.

Wrapping up our new fee scale

Thank you for joining me on this sliding scale journey. I am hopeful this model will help a more diverse group of people have access to care. Scarcity can be one of the biggest deterrents to reaching out for emotional + mental health support when we need it. We all have bills, including me, so I ask that we each keep in mind the difference between the need to shift our financial priorities around during scarcity + true financial hardship. For those who do feel they could benefit from services while feeling they have no access to payment, I definitely consider barter, hybrids + future payment options for when Scarcity is overwhelming.
