Burnout Is Sneaky: Here’s How It Shows Up

This is a space for the quietly burned out, the beautifully complicated, and the ones craving something softer. Here, you’ll find reflections on nervous system health, burnout recovery, emotional regulation, self-trust, perimenopause, identity shifts, and the messy magic of being human.

Expect equal parts science and soul, with a touch of humor and zero pressure to optimize anything. Whether you're deep in healing, toe-dipping into rest, or just looking for a better way to be with yourself—you're in the right place.

Let’s be honest: burnout rarely announces itself with flashing lights and sirens.
It’s more like a slow Wi-Fi connection—annoying at first, then completely disruptive, and finally... you’re just staring at a spinning wheel wondering how you got here.

The truth is, burnout doesn’t always look like collapsing on the floor in full-blown crisis mode. Sometimes, it wears a blazer and answers emails. Sometimes, it’s still picking up the kids, checking off the list, and showing up to the meeting (with a slightly glazed-over stare).

So if you’ve been wondering, “Am I just tired... or is this something more?”—here are a few sneaky signs that burnout might be knocking (or already moved in and made itself a snack).

1. Everything feels slightly harder than it should.

You used to knock out that inbox before your second cup of coffee. Now it takes a Herculean effort to open a single email.
You’re not lazy. Your brain is in energy-saving mode.

2. You fantasize about running away. A lot.

Not in a dramatic way (okay, maybe a little), but you’ve definitely googled “quiet cabins in the woods” or dreamed of faking your own death and starting over in Portugal.

Spoiler alert: you don’t need to disappear. You just need rest.

3. You’re weirdly emotional over small things.

Someone cutting you off in traffic? Tears.
Your partner forgot to take the trash out? End of the world.
Your favorite mug broke? Existential crisis.
Burnout turns up the volume on your emotions because your nervous system is maxed out. Totally normal. Totally fixable.

4. You stop doing the things you actually like.

That hobby you used to love? Feels exhausting.
That weekly friend date? You cancel. Again.
Burnout disconnects you from pleasure and creativity—it’s not that you don’t care anymore. It’s that you’ve been in survival mode too long.

5. You secretly dread mornings (even after 8 hours of sleep).

You’re sleeping, but you’re not restoring. Your body might be horizontal, but your soul is still in fight-or-flight.
Burnout recovery isn’t just about getting more sleep. It’s about getting the right kind of rest—nervous system, emotional, creative, and social.

So... is it burnout?

Maybe. Maybe not. But if even one of these hit a little too close to home, it might be time for a reset.

Not a productivity bootcamp.
Not another planner.
A real, gentle, sustainable reset.
